Zi Wei Dou Shu Glossary

The major and minor stars, the twelve palaces and the four transformations (Si Hua) of Purple Star astrology.

About this system

Purple Star astrology (Zi Wei Dou Shu, 紫微斗數) maps a life onto twelve palaces, each covering one area such as self, wealth, career, relationships or health. Fourteen major stars and many auxiliary stars are placed into those palaces according to your lunar birth date and birth hour, so the same star can mean very different things depending on where it lands.

The Four Transformations (Si Hua, 四化) add movement to the chart. Each year they turn certain stars toward prosperity, power, reputation or obstacles, which is how Zi Wei describes changing luck over time. In the NPCC life simulation, palaces are the life domains your character moves through and stars are the traits and events they bring. Use this glossary to look up any star, palace or transformation and see how it typically shows up in everyday life.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Zi Wei Dou Shu need my exact birth hour?

The birth hour decides which palace becomes your Life Palace, and every star placement follows from that, so an unknown hour changes the whole layout.

What is the Life Palace?

The Life Palace describes your basic personality and approach to life. It is the starting point for reading the other eleven palaces.

What does Si Hua mean?

Si Hua are the Four Transformations: prosperity, power, reputation and obstacle. They show where energy flows or gets stuck in a given year.
